Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have foiled a terrorist ambush in Zamfara State, rescued two abducted herders and recovered 520 livestock allegedly rustled by terrorists in Sokoto State.

The military recorded the successes during separate operations conducted on October 28, 2026, as part of efforts to combat terrorism and protect vulnerable communities across the North-West.

In Zamfara, troops of Sector 2 came under attack while conducting a fighting patrol along the Anka-Guruzu Road following reports of terrorist activities in the area.

The terrorists reportedly launched a coordinated ambush from both sides of the road, but the troops fought back with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, the troops inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists during the encounter.

The troops subsequently secured the affected road and restored freedom of movement for commuters.

However, a soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the exchange of fire and was evacuated for medical attention. The military said he was in stable condition.

In a separate operation in Sokoto State, troops foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders at Takasaba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.

The operation followed intelligence reports about terrorist activities in the area, prompting the troops to mobilise and engage the attackers.

The terrorists reportedly fled, abandoning 520 livestock and two abducted herders.

The rescued victims were identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14. They were subsequently handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.

The task force said the operations demonstrated its continued efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement, secure critical routes and protect communities across the region.

The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General W.B. Idris, commended the troops for their courage and fighting spirit.

Idris urged the troops to sustain the offensive against terrorist groups and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security across the Joint Operations Area.

He also called on residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information to support ongoing military operations.
