Over 40 Bandits Killed as Rival Factions Clash in Zamfara
More than 40 suspected bandits have reportedly been killed in a violent clash between rival armed groups in the eastern Mada axis of Zamfara State, with the younger brother of notorious bandit leader Ado Allero among those said to have died.
The deceased relative was identified as “Senator”, according to a report by conflict reporter and counterinsurgency expert Zagazola Makama on Friday.
The confrontation reportedly involved rival factions within the bandit networks operating in the area, where internal disputes have continued to fuel violent clashes.
Preliminary accounts put the death toll at more than 40 fighters, although the identities of most of the casualties and the full extent of the confrontation remain unclear.
Security sources and local accounts cited in the report said the clash occurred amid escalating tensions among armed groups in the area. However, the immediate cause of the fighting had yet to be established.
The reported death of Senator could have implications for the network linked to Ado Allero, a prominent bandit leader operating in north-western Nigeria.
Conflicts among armed criminal groups in the region have been attributed to disputes over territorial control, leadership struggles and competition for resources.
The latest confrontation underscores the persistent divisions within bandit networks operating across parts of the North-West, where rivalries have occasionally escalated into deadly violence.
As of the time of the report, there was no independent confirmation of the reported casualty figures or an official statement detailing the circumstances of the clash.
