NISO, Stakeholders Examine Electricity Act Reforms, State Power Markets
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has joined key stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry to examine reforms introduced by the Electricity Act 2023 and explore opportunities for developing state-level electricity markets.
The discussions took place on Wednesday at a two-day National Workshop on the Electricity Act 2023, held at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
NISO’s delegation was led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, FNSE. Other members included the Company Secretary and General Manager, Legal, Barr. Bashir Ahmed, and the Assistant General Manager, Legal, Hajiya Maryam Gabdo Malabu.
The workshop was organised by the Office of the Vice President in collaboration with AllStates Management Partners Solutions Limited.
Deliberations focused on the implications of the Electricity Act 2023, particularly the development of a multi-level electricity market that allows states to establish their own electricity markets within the framework of the law.
Participants examined how the reforms could enable states to attract investment, develop sustainable electricity markets and improve power supply to consumers.
The workshop also featured panel discussions involving industry experts and stakeholders, who explored the implementation of the reforms, emerging challenges and practical strategies for strengthening electricity markets across the country.
The engagement provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange perspectives on the evolving electricity market structure and identify opportunities for collaboration in advancing the objectives of the Electricity Act 2023.
