Tinubu Grants Kemi Nandap Second Tenure Extension Again, Keeps Immigration CG in Office Until June 2028
President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh 18-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap, keeping her in office until June 30, 2028.
The approval, announced on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The Presidency said the extension was aimed at addressing a succession gap in the service and allowing the board enough time to appoint a successor.
Tinubu commended Nandap for the reforms achieved under her leadership and charged her to consolidate the gains.

This marks the second tenure extension for Nandap, who was initially appointed on March 1, 2024, with her tenure originally scheduled to end on August 31, 2025. In March 2025, Tinubu extended her tenure to December 31, 2026.
The extension has, however, drawn criticism from activist and AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, who accused the President of recycling ineffective officials.
“Extending the tenure of deadweights in the system destroys workers’ morale, stifles career progression, blocks opportunities for deserving officers, and undermines professionalism in the civil service,” Sowore said.
The development comes amid concerns over leadership succession within the NIS, with reports indicating that about 950 officers, including Nandap, were listed for retirement in 2026.
