Tinubu at 74: ‘Reforms Are Working,’ President Tells Nigerians, Opts for Low-Key Celebration
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration’s reforms are beginning to yield positive results, expressing optimism that the country is gradually emerging from its current economic challenges.
In a personal message marking his 74th birthday on Sunday, the President said there are clear signs of progress despite prevailing difficulties, noting that “there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
Reflecting on the reform policies introduced under his government, Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices made by Nigerians but insisted they have not been in vain.
“As I mark this special day, I am reminded of the challenges we’ve faced since we initiated our reforms. I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain as we can see some glittering light at the end of the tunnel, despite temporary setbacks caused by the ongoing Middle East crisis,” he said.
The President stressed that the gains recorded so far are a collective achievement, crediting Nigerians for their resilience and support.
“The credit for the positive outcomes we have achieved does not belong solely to me or my team. We achieved these gains together,” he added.
Tinubu also explained his decision to mark the occasion quietly, citing the current national mood and ongoing socio-economic challenges. According to him, the subdued celebration aligns with his tradition of reflecting the state of the nation on such occasions.
He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for the outpouring of goodwill messages, prayers, and support, noting that such gestures continue to strengthen his administration.
“I want to thank Nigerians for their messages, show of love, and prayers on the occasion of my 74th birthday,” he said, while also appreciating individuals and groups who placed congratulatory messages in the media.
The President further acknowledged his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their kind remarks and support.
Reaffirming his commitment to national development, Tinubu urged citizens to remain hopeful and steadfast, assuring them that his administration remains focused on delivering lasting economic recovery and prosperity.
