Shettima Visits El-Rufai in Abuja Over Mother’s Death
Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday paid a condolence visit to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at his Abuja residence following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
The visit was disclosed by the Vice President’s media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, via a statement shared on his official X handle.
During the visit, Shettima described the late matriarch as a woman of great virtue and a strong pillar for her family. He also offered prayers for the repose of her soul and asked God to grant the El-Rufai family the strength to bear the loss.
According to the statement, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday after a brief illness at an advanced age.
“Shettima personally conveyed his condolences and prayed for comfort and strength for the family during this difficult time,” the statement noted.
The deceased was laid to rest on Sunday following funeral prayers.
Her death was earlier announced by her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, who paid tribute to her life and called for prayers.
In the wake of her passing, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission granted temporary bail to El-Rufai to enable him participate in the burial rites of his late mother.
