King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to embark on a state visit to the United States in late April, following official confirmation by Buckingham Palace.

During the visit, the royal couple will meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington DC. The trip will include a state dinner at the White House, as well as an address by the King to the US Congress.

The visit marks the first UK state visit to the US since Queen Elizabeth II travelled to the country in 2007. It is expected to highlight longstanding diplomatic ties, especially as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence this year.

Buckingham Palace said the trip aims to strengthen historic connections and modern relations between both nations, despite recent political tensions linked to the Iran conflict.

President Trump, who hosted the King at Windsor Castle during his UK visit in September 2025, has repeatedly spoken of their cordial relationship, describing the monarch as “fantastic” and expressing anticipation for the upcoming visit.

However, the trip comes amid some diplomatic strain. Trump recently criticised UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the Iran war, while debates continue within the UK over whether the visit should proceed.

There is also growing interest in whether the King will meet his son, Prince Harry, who resides in the United States.

On their return journey, the King is scheduled to visit Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic.

The UK government, which oversees state visits, is believed to be leveraging the King’s relationship with Trump to reinforce diplomatic ties and ease tensions between both countries.
