Armed forces of the Nigerian Army successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on worshippers during an Easter Sunday service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area, Kaduna State, rescuing 31 civilians from abduction.

According to military sources, the attackers stormed the ECWA Church while service was ongoing, taking several worshippers hostage. Promptly alerted by a distress call, troops mobilised to the scene and, with crucial guidance from members of the Ariko community, pursued the fleeing assailants.

In the ensuing confrontation, the soldiers overpowered the terrorists, compelling them to abandon the hostages. One rescued civilian sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical care. Tragically, the remains of five victims killed by the terrorists were recovered at the scene.

Evidence at the site, including blood trails along escape routes, indicated the attackers suffered significant casualties. Nigerian Army units have intensified operations to track down the remaining perpetrators, recover any other captives, and ensure justice is served.

To strengthen security and prevent further attacks, additional troops have been deployed to the area. The Army commended the Ariko community for their prompt support, calling it instrumental to the success of the operation.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to defending citizens and Nigeria’s territorial integrity, working closely with other security agencies and local stakeholders. Troops continue offensive operations against all threats to national security and urged the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to assist in maintaining peace.

The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Kaduna State despite sustained military campaigns against banditry and terrorism, occurring on a day when Christians nationwide were celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
