The Nigerian Air Force (Nigerian Air Force) has launched an investigation into reports that one of its air operations may have struck a local market in Jilli, Yobe State, resulting in possible civilian casualties.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the Service treats all allegations of civilian harm with “utmost seriousness and empathy,” adding that the protection of innocent lives remains central to its operations.

According to the statement, the Chief of the Air Staff has ordered the immediate activation of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell) to examine the incident. The team has been directed to visit Jilli for a fact-finding mission to determine the circumstances surrounding the reported strike.

The Air Force said the investigation will be conducted in collaboration with relevant authorities and community representatives to ensure a comprehensive review of the situation.

“The NAF remains firmly committed to professionalism, accountability, and transparency in the conduct of its missions,” Air Commodore Ejodame said, urging the public and media to avoid speculation while the inquiry is ongoing.

He further reassured citizens of the military’s commitment to balancing national security operations with the protection of civilian lives, noting that all credible concerns would be addressed with due diligence.

As of the time of this report, no official casualty figures have been confirmed, and the circumstances surrounding the alleged strike remain under investigation.
