Outrage has erupted in Okpo community, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, following the alleged killing of a final-year student, Andrew Amehson Aziko, by security guards at a health institution.

The incident reportedly occurred at Nana College of Health in Ibana Okpo, where the student was accused of wrongdoing before being assaulted and fatally shot by the guards.

The case was brought to public attention by a former Secretary of Olamaboro LGA, Hon. Danjuma Onoja, who called for a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.

Eyewitness accounts and circulating footage suggest the victim was beaten before being shot. Reports indicate the guards allegedly knew the student personally, as he was heard calling them by name during the encounter.

Community sources said the deceased was a final-year student associated with the institution’s Anyigba campus and was generally regarded as well-behaved. It was also gathered that he had been dealing with mental health challenges prior to the incident.

Relatives and residents have condemned the killing, describing it as unjustified and inhumane. A family member, Monday Ujah, said the act was shocking and called on authorities to hold those responsible accountable.

Residents also expressed concern over what they described as a pattern of violent actions by local security operatives in the area. The incident is reportedly the second alleged extrajudicial killing in Olamaboro within two months.

Community members warned that failure to address the situation could heighten tensions and lead to unrest. Some also criticised the lack of immediate response from relevant authorities and the institution where the incident occurred.
