The Labour Party has witnessed a growing wave of aspirants seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections, as prominent political figures stormed the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja to obtain nomination forms.

Among the leading aspirants is Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, widow of former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who picked up forms to contest for the Imo East Senatorial District seat under the Labour Party platform.

Also joining the race is former House of Representatives member Hassan Mamman Barguwa, who is seeking a return to the National Assembly to represent the Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.

Other aspirants who obtained nomination forms include Dennis Chibuzor Oshai for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency seat in Delta State, Eric Edward for the Hong State Constituency seat in Adamawa State, and Mohammed Hayatu Atiku for the Uba/Gaya State Constituency position.

Speaking after purchasing his nomination form, Barguwa praised the Labour Party for conducting what he described as a smooth, transparent, and well-organised nomination process.

He expressed confidence that the party was rapidly gaining popularity, especially in Nigeria’s North-East region, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party officials said the turnout at the Abuja secretariat remained high, with more aspirants expected to obtain forms in the coming days as political activities intensify nationwide.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the enthusiasm among aspirants reflects the party’s growing political influence and expanding support base across the country.

The increasing number of aspirants seeking Labour Party tickets signals an early build-up to the 2027 elections, with opposition parties positioning themselves to challenge the dominance of the ruling APC and other established political blocs.
