US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s response to Washington’s latest proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between the two nations, describing Tehran’s position as “totally unacceptable.”

The rejection comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to halt months of escalating military tensions that have destabilized the Middle East and disrupted global oil markets.

According to reports from international media outlets, Iran submitted its response through Pakistani mediators, outlining conditions that included an end to hostilities across the region, the lifting of sanctions, compensation for war-related damages, and guarantees over its sovereignty in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump, reacting on his Truth Social platform, dismissed the proposal and accused Iran of prolonging negotiations while refusing to compromise on key issues, including its nuclear programme and regional military activities.

Reuters reported that Tehran also demanded an end to the US naval blockade and restrictions on Iranian oil exports, while insisting that future negotiations should focus first on ending military attacks before broader issues are discussed.

The failed talks have heightened fears of a prolonged conflict, with tensions continuing around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments. Oil prices reportedly surged following Trump’s remarks as investors worried about further disruptions to energy supplies.

The Associated Press noted that Iran’s latest response was viewed in Washington as falling short of American demands, particularly regarding Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and support for allied militant groups in the region.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts by regional mediators including Pakistan and Qatar are expected to continue as concerns grow over the humanitarian and economic consequences of the conflict.
