One Killed, Seven Injured as Trailer Ploughs Into APC Campaign Procession in Osun

A campaign procession organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State turned tragic on Wednesday after a trailer reportedly lost control and rammed into supporters in Ede, killing one person and injuring seven others.

The incident occurred in the Oke Gada area of Ede during a campaign walk held in support of the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Eyewitnesses said the trailer suddenly veered off the road and crashed into the crowd of party supporters, causing panic and leaving several persons seriously injured.

According to sources at the scene, the driver attributed the accident to brake failure, claiming he lost control of the vehicle moments before it struck the procession.

The injured victims were immediately evacuated to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment, while the deceased was confirmed dead shortly after the incident.

Confirming the development, the APC Director of Media and Information in Osun State, Kola Olabisi, said the party had received reports of the tragedy but was still awaiting comprehensive details.

Olabisi disclosed that the party leadership had dispatched a team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the actual cause of the crash.

“We have sent a team to the scene to gather facts about what happened. More information will be made available after the findings are completed,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it had not yet received an official report on the accident.

The Public Education Officer of the FRSC in Osun State, Agnes Ogungbemi, stated that the command was still awaiting formal notification before commencing any investigation into the incident.

The tragedy has cast a shadow over the APC campaign activities in the state, with party supporters mourning the loss of one of their members and praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash and determine whether mechanical failure or other factors were responsible for the incident.
