PSC Promotes 93 Senior Police Officers, Elevates 13 Commissioners to AIG Rank

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers across various ranks, including the elevation of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), as part of efforts to strengthen leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions were approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday at its corporate headquarters in Abuja, following the officers’ successful performance in written examinations and oral interviews.

Among the newly promoted AIGs are Itam Nnaghe Obono, formerly Commissioner of Police in charge of the Counter Terrorism Unit; Bassey Samuel Ewah of Plateau State Command; Osagie John Agans-Irabor of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Lagos; Monday Agbonika of Edo State Command; Iyamah Daniel Adebor of Bayelsa State Command; Isa Danladi Nda of Abia State Command; Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu of Anambra State Command; Haruna Alaba Yahaya of Jigawa State Command; Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent of Benue State Command; Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, CP Welfare; alongside Akaninyene Ezima, Afegbua B. Rashid and Edozie Hycenth Azuka.

The Commission also elevated 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police.

The newly promoted CPs include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab A. Pembi.

In addition, the PSC promoted 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), while 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were elevated to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

Some of the newly promoted DCPs include Ofili Felix, Mohammed Baba-Mala, Deborah O. Benary, Mohammed Sani Musa, Lot Garba Lantoh, Ijeoma Princewill Onyema, Oyedepo Olubisi, Amanyi Christopher and Regina Mbanefo.

Among the CSPs promoted to ACP are Mustapha Lawal, Gafar Ajayi Adeyanju and Nnamdi Lotanna Anabike, the Divisional Police Officer of Central Police Station, Onitsha.

The Commission also confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).

Speaking after the promotions, PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary service.

He charged the newly promoted officers to uphold truth, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties, stressing that professionalism must remain their guiding principle.

Argungu also cautioned them against involvement in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, reminding them to protect their integrity throughout their careers.

“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” he said.
