Security Forces Foil Fresh Attack on NIPSS, Kill One Suspected Gunman in Plateau

Security operatives have foiled another attempted attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, killing one suspected assailant during a gun battle with armed attackers.

The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. on Wednesday when the suspected invaders allegedly attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter but met stiff resistance from security personnel on duty.

Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, Dr. Osime Samuel, said the attackers engaged security operatives in a fierce exchange of gunfire before being forced to retreat by what he described as a swift and coordinated security response.

According to the statement, one of the suspected attackers was neutralised during the encounter, while the remaining members of the group fled the scene.

The institute said the attackers failed to gain access to the facility, assuring that participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff, residents and all infrastructure within the institution remained safe and unharmed.

“NIPSS wishes to reassure participants, staff, residents and the general public that the security of lives and property within the institute remains our highest priority,” the statement said.

It added that security agencies had intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, while surveillance and other security measures had been strengthened within and around the institution to prevent future attacks.

The institute also commended the professionalism and prompt response of security personnel whose actions successfully repelled the attack and prevented a security breach.

NIPSS further urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary panic, assuring that the situation had been brought under control.

The latest incident comes only weeks after another reported attempt by armed men to infiltrate the institute, raising fresh concerns over repeated security threats targeting the nation’s foremost policy and strategic research institution.
