Operation Fansan Yamma: Troops Rescue 10 Kidnap Victims Across North-West
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians kidnapped by terrorists in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The latest operations, carried out on August 18 and 19, are part of sustained military efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities across the North-West.
In Sokoto State, troops conducting a patrol in Isa Local Government Area on August 19 encountered an ambush by terrorists.
The troops responded to the attack, forcing the terrorists to abandon the area and flee.
Five civilians were rescued during the encounter and subsequently reunited with their families, while two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were recovered.
In Kebbi State, troops acting on intelligence about the abduction of three people launched a search-and-rescue operation in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area on August 18.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of all three victims.
The rescued civilians were profiled before being handed over to the appropriate local authorities.
A separate operation was conducted in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State following reports of terrorist activity in the area.
Troops were rapidly mobilised to the location on August 18, forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon two captives.
The victims, who had sustained gunshot wounds during their captivity, were evacuated to a medical facility for urgent medical attention.
The military said efforts were ongoing to track the fleeing terrorists and bring them to justice.
The Theatre Command commended troops involved in the operations for their vigilance and swift response, saying efforts would continue to maintain pressure on terrorist groups operating across the Joint Operations Area.
It also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces, stressing that cooperation from local communities remains critical to protecting lives and property.
The latest rescues come amid intensified military operations against terrorist and criminal groups across the North-West, where several communities continue to face threats from kidnapping, armed attacks and other forms of insecurity.
