Hanan Buhari, daughter of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has dedicated her recognition as one of the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons of Africa to the memory of her father.

She received the honour at the Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit held in Marrakech, Morocco, an event that gathered political leaders, diplomats, and business executives from across the continent.

Speaking after the ceremony, an emotional Hanan paid tribute to her father’s enduring influence on her life and character. She attributed her commitment to integrity and service to the values he instilled in her.

“I dedicate this honour to my late father, President Muhammadu Buhari, whose guidance, discipline, and unwavering belief in me shaped the woman I have become,” she stated.

Hanan emphasised the lessons of resilience and selflessness she learned from the former president, which continue to guide her humanitarian work. “He taught me the importance of integrity, resilience, and selfless service.

His confidence in me gave me the courage to believe in myself, and I will continue to uphold the values he instilled in me by working to empower women and contribute meaningfully to society,” she added.

The award was presented by the DAVDAN Peace and Advocacy Foundation in partnership with the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons Africa initiative.

The summit’s Project Director, Kingsley Amafibe, congratulated Hanan, describing her as a role model whose dedication to women’s advancement inspires a new generation of African leaders.

Hanan is the founder of the Hanan Buhari Foundation, through which she advocates for the welfare of women and children and promotes leadership roles for young women.
