Second Russian Attack on Kyiv in Less Than a Week Kills 11, Destroys Residential Buildings
At least 11 people have been killed and dozens injured after Russia launched another major attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, marking the second large-scale assault on the city in less than a week. The overnight strike caused extensive damage to residential buildings, triggered fires across several districts, and prompted emergency rescue operations as authorities searched for survivors trapped beneath rubble.
According to Ukrainian officials, the attack involved a combination of missiles and drones targeting multiple areas of the capital. Several apartment blocks sustained direct hits or were severely damaged by falling debris from intercepted projectiles, leaving hundreds of residents displaced and causing widespread destruction across affected neighborhoods.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency services worked through the night to extinguish fires and rescue residents from damaged buildings. Medical teams were deployed across the city as hospitals received dozens of injured victims, some suffering serious wounds from explosions and collapsing structures.
Ukraine’s military reported that air defense systems intercepted many incoming drones and missiles, but officials acknowledged that several projectiles penetrated defenses and struck civilian areas. Authorities described scenes of shattered windows, collapsed walls, burned vehicles and heavily damaged apartment complexes.
The latest attack comes just days after another significant Russian bombardment of Kyiv, highlighting the continued intensity of Moscow’s aerial campaign against Ukrainian cities. Ukrainian officials accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, while Moscow has consistently maintained that its operations are directed at military and strategic targets.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike and renewed calls for additional air-defense systems from Ukraine’s international partners. He said the attack demonstrated the ongoing threat facing Ukrainian civilians and emphasized the need for continued foreign military support.
International leaders and organizations swiftly reacted to the attack, expressing concern over the loss of civilian life and the destruction of residential areas. Humanitarian agencies warned that repeated strikes on urban centers are increasing the burden on emergency services and displacing more families already affected by the prolonged conflict.
As rescue teams continue clearing debris and searching damaged structures, officials caution that the death toll could rise. Investigators are also assessing the full extent of the destruction, while residents begin the difficult task of recovering from yet another devastating attack on the Ukrainian capital.
