Russia Claims Strike on Ukrainian Military-Linked Ships and Black Sea Port Facilities

Russia’s Defence Ministry says its forces have carried out a fresh wave of strikes against Ukrainian port infrastructure and vessels allegedly supporting Kyiv’s military, in the latest escalation of the conflict in the Black Sea region. The claims, however, could not be independently verified, and Ukrainian authorities had not immediately commented on the reported attacks.

According to the Russian military, the attacks targeted three vessels in the port of Mykolaiv that it said were linked to Ukrainian military operations. Moscow also claimed to have struck another vessel in the Black Sea near Odesa, alleging it was transporting military-related cargo.

Russia further said its forces hit a container terminal in the port of Chornomorsk, along with a warehouse where drones and drone components were allegedly stored. The ministry maintained that the facilities were being used to support Ukraine’s armed forces, although it did not provide evidence to support the claims.

The reported strikes come as both Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify attacks on strategic infrastructure linked to military logistics. Black Sea ports have become increasingly important targets, with both sides seeking to disrupt supply routes, weapons deliveries and maritime trade that support the war effort.

The latest operation follows a series of Ukrainian drone attacks inside Russia, including strikes on logistics facilities and warehouses linked to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer. Russian officials said one such attack in the Moscow region killed five people and injured several others, while Ukraine has argued that some of the warehouses are being used to support Russian military logistics.

Fighting around the Black Sea has intensified significantly in recent months, with commercial vessels, ports and energy infrastructure increasingly caught in the conflict. Turkey has expressed concern over the growing risks to shipping in the region, warning that continued attacks could threaten maritime trade and regional stability.

Military analysts say the Black Sea remains one of the war’s most strategically significant theatres, serving as a critical route for exports, military supplies and energy shipments. With neither side showing signs of easing long-range attacks, the maritime front is expected to remain a key battleground in the months ahead.
