Nigeria Meets OPEC Quota for Third Consecutive Month as Oil Output Hits 1.67m bpd — NUPRC

Nigeria has met and exceeded its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) crude oil production quota for the third consecutive month, despite a month-on-month decline in output.

Latest figures released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) show that the country produced an average of 1.505 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil in July 2026, above its OPEC quota of 1.5mbpd.

When condensate production of 0.17mbpd is included, Nigeria’s combined average daily output stood at 1.67mbpd during the month.

Despite surpassing its OPEC crude production target, the NUPRC data showed that production declined by 4 per cent compared with the previous month.

Daily combined production fluctuated between a low of 1.57mbpd and a peak of 1.78mbpd during July.

The regulator attributed the decline mainly to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo fields, which affected production volumes during the period.

According to the NUPRC, the disruptions at the two fields contributed significantly to the reduction in national crude oil output.

The regulator, however, said production from most other oil-producing assets remained relatively stable during the period.

Operators, it added, implemented measures aimed at maintaining production efficiency and limiting the impact of operational difficulties.

The latest figures indicate that Nigeria continues to maintain crude production above its OPEC quota despite persistent operational challenges in parts of the upstream sector.

The development is significant for the Federal Government as higher and more stable crude production remains crucial to boosting oil revenues, strengthening foreign exchange earnings and supporting the country’s broader economic recovery efforts.
