Taiwo Awoniyi Set to Join Coventry City From Nottingham Forest

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi is set to leave Nottingham Forest for Premier League newcomers Coventry City after the two clubs reached an agreement over a permanent transfer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that a club-to-club agreement had been completed, with Awoniyi undergoing his medical ahead of the move.

The transfer will see the 29-year-old forward join Frank Lampard’s Coventry side as the club prepares for its return to the Premier League.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest in 2022 and has spent four seasons with the club. He made 103 appearances for Forest, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists, according to reports.

His time at Forest included a significant contribution during the club’s return to the Premier League, while injuries and increased competition for places subsequently limited his opportunities.

Last season, Awoniyi started only three of his 17 Premier League appearances and was not included in Forest’s Europa League squad.

The move to Coventry represents a fresh opportunity for the Nigeria international to secure regular first-team football and play a prominent role in the newly promoted side’s Premier League campaign.

Coventry have been active in the transfer market following their promotion, with the club strengthening several areas of the squad ahead of the new season.

Awoniyi could be in line to make his Coventry debut soon, although his availability will depend on the completion of his medical and the formal registration of the transfer.

Coventry’s opening Premier League fixture is away to Arsenal on August 21, while the club will face Nottingham Forest on September 19; potentially giving Awoniyi an early opportunity to return to his former club.

The transfer remains subject to the completion of the final formalities, with an official announcement expected after the medical process is concluded.
