Victor Osimhen to Arsenal? Latest Reports Point to Talks, But No Agreement Yet
Reports claiming that Nigeria and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has reached an agreement to join Arsenal are currently not supported by the strongest available evidence.
There is growing transfer interest in the 27-year-old forward, with several reports linking him with Arsenal as the Premier League champions consider strengthening their attack before the transfer window closes.
However, as of Monday, August 17, there is no confirmed agreement between Osimhen and Arsenal, nor between Arsenal and Galatasaray, that would allow the transfer to be described as a done deal.
Recent reports have indicated that Arsenal have discussed Osimhen’s availability with Galatasaray. Sky Sports reported that the clubs have discussed the Nigerian striker amid wider conversations involving Arsenal players Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.
Other reports have suggested that Arsenal could be willing to make a substantial offer for the striker, with figures around £58 million to £60 million being mentioned.
Osimhen himself has also fuelled caution around the reports.
After scoring twice in Galatasaray’s opening league game, the Nigerian was asked about the speculation surrounding his future.
He declined to commit himself to either staying or leaving, saying there are always rumours during transfer windows and that he was focused on his football before deciding what comes next.
That does not amount to an agreement with Arsenal.
Perhaps the biggest reason the “agreement reached” claim should be treated cautiously is Galatasaray’s position.
Reports have quoted Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek as saying the Turkish club does not intend to sell Osimhen this summer.
TeamTalk likewise reported that Galatasaray have told Arsenal that Osimhen will not be sold before the end of the transfer window.
At the same time, other reports suggest Arsenal are still exploring whether a deal can be reached, meaning the situation remains fluid.
The Arsenal interest, however, appears to be genuine.
Sky Sports has reported discussions concerning Osimhen’s availability, while other outlets have reported negotiations involving potential player exchanges or separate deals involving Martinelli and Nwaneri.
There are therefore three different developments that should not be confused:
– Arsenal are interested in Osimhen: reported.
– Arsenal have held discussions concerning Osimhen: reported by multiple outlets.
– Osimhen has agreed personal terms and the transfer is done: not confirmed.
That distinction is particularly important because transfer rumours can move extremely quickly in the final weeks of the window.
Arsenal are not necessarily the only Premier League club monitoring the situation.
Manchester United have also reportedly made enquiries about Osimhen, potentially adding another competitor if Galatasaray eventually become willing to negotiate.
For now, Osimhen remains a Galatasaray player, and the Turkish club’s publicly reported position makes an immediate Arsenal transfer far from certain.
Bottom line: The headline “Osimhen reaches agreement to join Arsenal” should NOT be published as confirmed news at this stage. A safer and more accurate formulation is that Arsenal are interested in Osimhen and talks/contacts have been reported, but no agreement has been confirmed.
