Tottenham Agree £75M Deal To Sign Man City Star Savinho In Major Transfer Coup
Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Brazilian winger Savinho in a deal that could be worth up to £85 million.
The north London club will pay an initial £75 million, with a further £10 million in potential add-ons, as they secure a player they have pursued for over a year.
The 22-year-old is now expected to undergo a medical and sign a long-term contract at Spurs.
The move ends a long-running chase for Savinho, who opted to stay at the Etihad Stadium last summer but struggled for regular first-team minutes under Pep Guardiola, making just seven Premier League starts last season.
Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca confirmed the player’s desire to leave, stating, “Since day one, he has asked me that he wants to leave”.
The departure is set to become a club-record sale for City, surpassing Julian Alvarez’s £82m move to Atletico Madrid.
Savinho’s arrival will push Tottenham’s summer spending past the £300 million mark, following the acquisitions of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has been promised attacking reinforcements, and with several forwards injured, Savinho is expected to go straight into the starting line-up for Saturday’s Premier League opener at Brentford.
The club may not be done yet, as talks are reportedly progressing positively for Savinho’s City teammate Omar Marmoush.
While his time at Manchester City yielded only two Premier League goals in 53 appearances, Spurs are betting on the form he showed during a breakout loan spell at Girona.
At Girona, he led La Liga in successful take-ons and progressive carries, showcasing the pace and dribbling ability that made him one of Europe’s most dangerous wingers.
The Brazilian international, who was left out of the World Cup squad, will be hoping to revive his career and fulfill his potential under De Zerbi in north London.
