Nottingham Forest pulled off one of the biggest results of the Premier League weekend after defeating Manchester City 3–1 at the City Ground on Saturday, while Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the table with a narrow 1–0 victory over Hull City.

Forest delivered an impressive performance to hand City their third consecutive league defeat, with Liam Delap scoring twice against his former club.

The hosts took the lead in the sixth minute through Jair Cunha, who capitalised on a defensive error before driving forward and beating goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Delap doubled Forest’s advantage in the 18th minute after the home side regained possession and launched another attack, leaving City with an uphill task.

Manchester City returned from the break with greater urgency and reduced the deficit in the 52nd minute through Rayan Cherki, whose powerful effort gave the visitors hope of rescuing a result.

However, Forest restored their two-goal cushion in the 73rd minute when Delap completed his brace with a superb finish following a counter-attacking move involving Morgan Gibbs-White.

The victory gave Forest their first home win of the season and lifted them out of the relegation zone. For City, the defeat extended a worrying run of three successive Premier League losses, leaving them six points behind Arsenal.

At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal also secured three points, but had to work hard to overcome a stubborn Hull City side.

The visitors defended resolutely and created difficulties for the hosts, who struggled to find a breakthrough for much of the contest.

Arsenal eventually took the lead in the 72nd minute when captain Martin Ødegaard reacted quickest to a rebound after Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis had saved Noni Madueke’s effort.

The goal proved decisive as Mikel Arteta’s side held on to claim a 1–0 win and move to 27 points from 10 matches, maintaining a six-point advantage over Manchester City.

The contrasting results made Saturday a significant day in the title race, with Arsenal consolidating their position at the summit while City were left facing renewed questions after another league defeat.
