The Emir of Daura has conferred the historic title of Sarkin Filayen Kasar Hausa on Dr. Sulaiman Ibrahim PD, making him the first recipient of the traditional title.

The landmark ceremony, held at the Emir’s palace on Saturday, attracted traditional rulers, government officials, business leaders, academics, professionals, community leaders and other dignitaries.

The conferment was marked by prayers, goodwill messages and cultural celebrations as guests gathered to witness what was described as a significant development in the recognition of professional contributions to land and property affairs.

Emirate Explains Choice of Dr. PD

The Daura Emirate said the decision followed extensive consultations and a careful assessment of Dr. PD’s character, professional competence and contributions to the land and property sector.

According to the Emirate, qualities such as integrity, trustworthiness, professionalism and commitment to service were among the considerations that informed the conferment.

The Emirate stressed that the title goes beyond ceremonial recognition, noting that it carries significant responsibilities.

Dr. PD is expected to use the position to promote transparency and fairness in land administration, protect the legitimate interests of citizens and encourage stronger cooperation among landowners, tenants, estate agents, professionals and government authorities.

He was also charged with advancing responsible land administration practices across Nigeria and other parts of Hausaland.

Dr. PD Promises to Uphold Confidence

Speaking after the conferment, Dr. Sulaiman Ibrahim PD thanked the Emir of Daura and the entire Daura Emirate for the honour and confidence reposed in him.

He described the title as a call to greater service and responsibility, rather than an opportunity for personal prestige.

Dr. PD pledged to work with government institutions, professional bodies and other stakeholders to address challenges confronting the land and property sector.

He identified fraudulent property transactions, land disputes and the activities of unscrupulous individuals as some of the issues requiring urgent attention.

The new title holder also called for increased public enlightenment, urging Nigerians to follow due legal processes when acquiring land or conducting property transactions.

He advised members of the public to ensure that relevant property documents are properly obtained, verified and preserved.

Calls for Greater Stakeholder Cooperation

Dr. PD further called for closer collaboration between government agencies, traditional institutions, professional organisations, estate agents, landowners and members of the public.

He said such cooperation would help reduce land-related disputes and fraud while strengthening public confidence in the property sector.

He also encouraged stakeholders to support initiatives that promote peace, justice, security and sustainable development.

A Pioneering Traditional Position

As the first holder of the title, Dr. PD now occupies a pioneering position within the traditional structure of the Daura Emirate.

The new role is expected to provide a platform for greater public awareness on land matters, promote responsible property transactions and foster dialogue among key stakeholders.

It is also expected to strengthen the interface between traditional institutions, government authorities and professionals working in the land and property sector.

The ceremony ended with prayers for Dr. Sulaiman Ibrahim PD, with guests seeking divine wisdom, strength, good health and guidance for him in the discharge of his new responsibilities.
