The Nigerian naira recorded a mixed performance against major foreign currencies on Thursday, with slight gains in the parallel market while remaining relatively stable in the official window.

Exchange rate movements across the dollar, British pound, and euro reflected ongoing dynamics in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market as the Central Bank continues its intervention efforts.

In the official market, the naira traded at N1,415.00 against the United States dollar, according to live trading data.

The Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rate was quoted at N1,378.70 per dollar, indicating slight variations across different official trading platforms.

The parallel market, often referred to as the black market, saw the dollar trading between N1,410 and N1,420 for buying and selling rates respectively.

This represents a modest appreciation for the naira compared to recent trading sessions, as market observers noted the currency gained at least N8 against the dollar in the unofficial segment.

Market analysts attributed the relative stability to ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria interventions, though concerns persist over the widening gap between official and parallel market rates.

The latest available official rate from the CBN stood at N1,451.82 per dollar, while the parallel market was quoted at N1,485.00 per dollar in some transactions, reflecting a significant spread.

Currency market participants noted that the naira’s performance against other major currencies, including the British pound and the euro, followed similar patterns, with the parallel market offering slightly more favourable rates than official channels.

Financial experts continue to monitor the exchange rate movements closely, as the naira’s value remains a critical indicator of Nigeria’s economic health and affects everything from import costs to inflation.
