Troops Defuse Terrorists’ IED Planted Along Zamfara Highway

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled a potential terrorist attack in Zamfara State after recovering and safely disposing of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

The explosive device was discovered on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following credible intelligence received by troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West.

The Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Danja said troops swiftly responded to information about the suspected IED and moved to secure the affected portion of the road.

He said the troops identified the explosive device and immediately cordoned off the area to protect motorists and other road users.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was subsequently deployed to the scene and successfully rendered the device safe.

After the operation, troops intensified patrols across the surrounding areas to prevent terrorists from exploiting the route or carrying out further attacks.

The military said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of timely intelligence and the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and securing critical transportation routes within its area of responsibility.

The task force said it would continue to sustain aggressive operations against terrorist elements and deny them freedom of movement and action.

It also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects, movements or activities to security agencies.

According to the task force, prompt information from members of the public remains crucial to detecting and preventing attacks before they occur.
