IGP Disu Vows Sustained Crackdown On Banditry As Police Unveil New Division In Iluke

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has vowed to sustain operations against banditry and other criminal activities in Kogi State, assuring residents that the police will continue to strengthen security across vulnerable communities.

The assurance came as the Nigeria Police Force unveiled a new divisional headquarters in Iluke, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of the state, three months after suspected bandits attacked the community following a failed attempt to abduct students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

The June 10 attack, allegedly led by suspected bandit kingpin Kachala Ibrahim Battijo and his group, left three residents dead and heightened concerns over the security of communities in the area. The incident prompted increased security operations and renewed efforts to restore confidence among residents.

Representing the IGP at the unveiling, Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, said the establishment of the new division was a direct response to the security challenges confronting Iluke and neighbouring communities.

The Chairman of Kabba Bunu Local Government Area, Zacheus Dare, commended the police and other security agencies for their efforts, while the Kogi State Security Adviser, Jerry Omadara, said the state government would continue supporting security agencies in the fight against insecurity.

The new police division is strategically positioned to enhance security coverage across parts of Kabba Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa Muro and Lokoja Local Government Areas. It is expected to improve rapid response, intelligence gathering and community policing, while helping to prevent further attacks.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending criminals operating in the area.
