FG Opens Applications For 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships In UK

The Federal Government has opened applications for qualified Nigerian university graduates seeking to participate in the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) nomination exercise in the United Kingdom.

The Federal Ministry of Education, through its Department of Scholarship Awards, formerly known as the Federal Scholarship Board, said the scholarships are available for one year taught Master’s programmes and doctoral degrees of up to three years.

According to the ministry, applicants for Master’s programmes must possess a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division, while prospective doctoral candidates must have a relevant Master’s degree in addition to at least a Second Class Lower Division in their first degree.

Applicants are also required to secure admission into at least two UK institutions. Candidates seeking doctoral scholarships must additionally provide a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor at their chosen UK institutions.

The ministry listed evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) among the eligibility requirements.

Applications are to be submitted electronically through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission’s application system. Applicants are required to register, complete the online form and upload scanned copies of their passport photographs, university academic transcripts, birth certificates and admission letters from eligible UK institutions.

The deadline for submission of applications is October 20, 2026.

Applicants are also required to download and print a PDF copy of their completed application form for submission at the interview venue.

The ministry advised applicants with foreign certificates to provide official translations and evaluations where applicable.

It said candidates should align their study proposals with Nigeria’s developmental priority areas, including education, health, economic growth and the private sector, governance and conflict, climate and environment, water and sanitation, engineering, science and technology, food and nutrition, as well as humanitarian disasters and emergencies.

The ministry said applications would be assessed based on academic merit, potential development impact after completion of the study and the quality of the proposed study plan.
