Tinubu Celebrates Oluremi At 66, Says ‘I Would Choose The Same Road That Led Me To You’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, on her 66th birthday, describing her as his “truest friend and confidante” and praising her for standing by him through the difficult seasons of their life together.

In a birthday message issued on Monday, September 21, Tinubu said Oluremi had supported him with “patience, grace and uncommon courage,” adding that her counsel, prayers and honesty had remained a source of strength throughout their marriage.

Quoting a Yoruba proverb, “Ìyàwó rere ni adé ọkọ rẹ̀” — meaning a good wife is her husband’s crown — the President said Oluremi had given the saying practical meaning in his life.

“You have stood by my side through every season. The burdens that were mine to bear often found their way onto your shoulders. The thoughts I could not put into words somehow found their way to you,” Tinubu said.

He recalled how his wife remained calm and prayed with him during difficult periods when the future was uncertain, noting that she often recognised when he needed counsel even before he asked.

The President also praised Oluremi for speaking the truth plainly, even when he would rather not hear it.

“I call you my truest friend and confidante because you speak the truth plainly, even on the days I would rather not hear it,” he said.

Tinubu said the impact of the First Lady’s devotion could also be seen in their family, noting that their children and grandchildren had grown under the influence of her prayers, faith and values of kindness.

Beyond the family, the President highlighted Oluremi’s humanitarian activities, saying Nigerians had come to know her for compassion, generosity and steadfast faith.

He referenced her work through the New Era Foundation during their years in Lagos and the Renewed Hope Initiative, which he said had supported young people, widows, elderly citizens and women farmers across the country.

According to Tinubu, people affected by tuberculosis and other diseases had also benefited from the First Lady’s advocacy and support.

He said her compassion had transcended ethnic, regional and religious boundaries, adding that she had prayed for and helped people she had never met.

Reflecting on their years together, Tinubu said their long journey had been marked by difficult decisions, sacrifices, laughter and prayer.

“A long journey teaches a man the true value of a good partner. We have travelled a long road together,” he said.

The President concluded the message with a declaration of enduring affection, saying he would make the same choice if given the opportunity to begin their journey again.

“If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the same road that led me to you. Through every mile, my heart has always remained at home with you,” he said.

Tinubu prayed for many more years of good health and joy for the First Lady and expressed gratitude for the life and love they had built together.

“Happy 66th birthday, my darling Oluremi,” the President said.
