Tinubu Extends 2025 Budget Deadline To December 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, into law, extending the implementation of the 2025 budget to December 31, 2026.

The extension moves the budget implementation deadline from September 30 to December 31, 2026, giving Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) an additional three months to execute ongoing programmes and capital projects.

The President’s assent followed the passage of the amendment by the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29.

The development was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the Presidency, the extension will enable MDAs to complete ongoing capital projects and ensure that funds already appropriated are deployed to their intended purposes without disrupting critical government programmes.

The measure also provides additional time for the implementation of projects and programmes covered by the 2025 Appropriation Act.

President Tinubu commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment.

He said the action reflected the cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in advancing national programmes.

The President signed the amendment into law on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
