Brazil Cruise Past India 4–0 in First-Ever Senior International Meeting
Brazil defeated India 4–0 in an international friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with Samuel Lino scoring twice as the five-time world champions controlled the contest.
The match marked the first-ever senior men’s international meeting between Brazil and India and attracted around 51,000 spectators at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
India made a lively start and created opportunities during the opening stages, but Brazil gradually took control. The visitors opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Estêvão found the top-right corner with a left-footed finish after receiving the ball from Matheuzinho.
Brazil doubled their advantage six minutes before half-time. Estêvão turned provider this time, sending a through ball to Pedro, who finished from the right side of the penalty area to make it 2–0.
Vinícius Júnior also tested India’s goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu several times during the first half, but the Indian captain made important saves to keep the score from becoming even more one-sided before the break.
Brazil continued to dominate after the restart and extended their lead through Samuel Lino. The forward scored his first international goals for Brazil, finding the net twice in the second half to complete the 4–0 victory.
Lino’s second goal was particularly notable, with the forward producing a solo effort to put the result beyond doubt and complete a memorable international appearance.
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti made several changes to the team following the side’s previous matches in Australia, using the encounter to give opportunities to players who had seen less playing time. Brazil had previously drawn 1–1 with Australia before recording a 4–2 victory over the same opponents during their tour.
For India, the result extended a difficult run of form. The Blue Tigers entered the match after a 1–1 draw against Panama and were ranked 138th in the FIFA rankings, while Brazil were ranked fifth.
Despite the defeat, the fixture represented a significant occasion for Indian football, with Brazil’s first senior men’s appearance against India generating considerable attention in Kolkata.
Brazil concluded their tour of Australia and India with two victories and a draw. The South Americans are scheduled to face Japan and Singapore in November, while India are due to meet Uruguay in Kolkata on October 6.
