Security agencies have rescued 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and one civilian who were abducted in Imo State.

The victims were rescued in a joint operation involving the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.

The 21 victims are currently receiving medical attention at a DSS facility in the state following their rescue.

The development comes amid renewed security concerns along major routes in the South-East, particularly over the safety of prospective corps members travelling to orientation camps.

Security agencies are expected to continue efforts to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks on travellers and NYSC members in the region.

Further details on the circumstances surrounding the abduction, the location of the rescue operation and whether any suspects were arrested were not immediately available.
