The Nigerian military has stepped up efforts to recover the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, with specialised equipment deployed for an underwater search.

Top military commanders, led by the Western Naval Command Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, and Logistics Command Air Officer Commanding, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdul Suleh, visited the crash site to assess the ongoing recovery operation.

The search teams are deploying underwater sonar equipment and drones to locate the submerged aircraft amid the challenging mangrove terrain.

The Nigerian Navy has also deployed specialised hydrographic divers to map the murky waters and support the search, while swamp buggies are being prepared to facilitate excavation and recovery operations.

Rear Admiral Mustapha commended the Ondo State Government, local communities and emergency agencies for their support, while urging members of the public to remain calm as the recovery operation continues.
