Nigerian military troops have killed 10 Lakurawa terrorists during a fierce encounter with a large group of fighters in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State, the Defence Headquarters has announced.

The operation, conducted by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, also led to the recovery of 17 motorcycles, a machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a communication device.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, providing an update on ongoing military operations across the country between October 2 and October 8, 2026.

In a related development, troops also rescued 18 kidnap victims in Katsina State and a seven-year-old boy who had been abducted in Kaduna State.

The statement noted that several suspected terrorists and their collaborators were arrested during the operations conducted across various theatres of operation.

The troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have sustained pressure on terrorist networks in the North-West, with the latest encounter in Kebbi State dealing a significant blow to the Lakurawa group.

The military has continued to intensify its operations against terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country, with the Defence Headquarters reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and security in affected regions.
