Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stepped away from the business of governance to make a surprise appearance on the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week, modelling for renowned Nigerian menswear designer, Ugo Monye.

The governor joined professional models during Monye’s presentation on Saturday night at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, drawing applause from the audience.

Sanwo-Olu later shared photos and videos of his runway appearance, describing the experience as an opportunity to support the people contributing to the growth of Lagos’ creative industry.

“I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week,” the governor said.

He noted that Lagos was steadily strengthening its position as a hub for fashion, creativity and culture.

“Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he added.

The governor’s appearance was one of the highlights of the fashion event, which brought together leading designers, models, industry stakeholders and fashion enthusiasts to celebrate African creativity and craftsmanship.

Sanwo-Olu’s latest outing also marked his second documented appearance on the Lagos Fashion Week runway, following his participation in designer Emmy Kasbit’s presentation in 2023.

The 2026 edition of Lagos Fashion Week, held from October 28 to November 1, featured more than 60 designers and focused on the theme, “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures.”
