ADC DECLARES MOURNING PERIOD FOR LATE PRESIDENT BUHARI

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared a three-day mourning period across all its chapters and structures, commencing Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in honor of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. During this period, the party will suspend all political activities and public statements.

ADC Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement, described President Buhari as a leader who served the country with a fierce sense of duty, personal discipline, and conviction. “Regardless of political affiliations, what cannot be denied is that President Buhari served this country with a fierce sense of duty, personal discipline, and conviction,” Abdullahi said. Abdullahi noted that Buhari inspired millions across social divides, particularly the poor, who adored and stuck with him throughout his political journey.

The party, however, expressed regret over what it described as hypocrisy from Buhari’s former party and the current government, which it claimed had sought to tarnish his records and dismantle his legacies. Abdullahi warned the family and loyalists of the late president to be wary of political opportunism, saying, “We therefore wish to alert the family and loyalists of the late president to be wary of political opportunism.”
The ADC urged Nigerians to remember President Buhari for his integrity, humility, and deep commitment to public service, and to demand similar personal ethics from leadership in the future. “Let his memory be a mirror that reflects the personal ethics that we must continue to demand from leadership for generations to come,” Abdullahi added.
