CORP MEMBER TAKES ON PROJECT TO FENCE DURUMI CEMETERY, SEEKS SUPPORT FROM FCT MINISTER AND JULIUS BERGER

A serving corps member, Ukpevo Faith, has embarked on a remarkable project to build a perimeter fence around the Durumi cemetery in the Federal Capital Territory. The project, estimated to cost over N11 million, aims to secure the 4-hectare cemetery and prevent vandalism and desecration.

Faith, a 24-year-old Accounting graduate from the University of Abuja, was moved to take on the project after witnessing the cemetery’s deplorable state during a recent cleaning exercise. “I was moved to ask questions when I saw the cemetery’s state,” Faith explained. “I realized that funds and manpower were the major factors hindering the perimeter fence from being raised.”

Faith has submitted proposals to organizations and individuals, receiving positive responses. She has called on the Minister of FCT, Barr Nyesome Wike, and Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to support the project. “I believe in God’s blessings and for every good work of kindness and show of love and respect, God honors every bit of it,” Faith said.

The project has garnered support from community leaders and potential sponsors, but Faith is still seeking more sponsors to ensure its completion. Her vision is driven by a desire to give back to society and create a benchmark for future generations. Faith’s role model, her mother, inspires her philanthropic efforts, and she finds joy in seeing people smile when she does something good for them.

With the project’s approval from authorities and potential sponsors on board, Faith remains optimistic about completing this life-changing project. She sees herself pursuing a career in business and accounting while continuing to contribute to society.
