Court Orders Arrest, Police Nab Alleged Fake PFIPC DG Adeyemi
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of forgery, fraud and impersonation.
Adeyemi was apprehended on Tuesday in Osun State by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), hours after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest for failing to appear before the court for his scheduled arraignment.
The arrest was confirmed by the Force Public Relations Officer, who said police operatives took the suspect into custody shortly after the court’s order. A video released by the police showed Adeyemi being questioned following his arrest.
Earlier in the day, Justice Umar issued a bench warrant after the defendant failed to appear in court to answer an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation. Although a lawyer announced his appearance, the prosecution argued that Adeyemi had repeatedly failed to honour court proceedings and urged the court to order his arrest.
The charges stem from the activities of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, an entity the Federal Government has described as non-existent. Authorities allege that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the agency’s Director-General and used forged documents to impersonate government officials.
The PFIPC controversy has generated widespread public attention after investigations revealed that the fictitious agency allegedly secured office space within the Federal Secretariat and was listed in the 2026 federal budget, prompting separate investigations by anti-corruption agencies and the National Assembly.
Adeyemi is expected to be produced before the Federal High Court to face trial on the criminal charges against him.
