Delta HoS Postpones Retirees’ Send-Forth Over Death Of Deputy Director

The Delta State Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji, has postponed the send-forth ceremony organised in honour of the immediate past Head of Service and other retired Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments following the death of a serving Deputy Director in the state civil service.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026, will now hold on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The postponement followed the death of Mr. Unity Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

Adeda’s death has generated controversy, with reports alleging that he died following an altercation involving a serving commissioner in the state. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been independently established in the information available.

Announcing the postponement, the Head of Service said the decision was taken in recognition of the solemn circumstances surrounding the death of the senior civil servant and the need for the state civil service to mourn with his family.

The development has cast a sombre mood over the state civil service as colleagues, friends and associates mourn the deceased.

In a related development, a delegation from the Directorate of Establishments and Pensions in the Office of the Head of Service visited Adeda’s family on Sunday to convey the condolences of the Head of Service.

The delegation comprised the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Aki O. Best; Director of Pensions, Mr. G. Ofuaneme; and Director of Management Services, Mrs. Ivi Pretty.

During the visit, the delegation expressed the sympathy and solidarity of the Office of the Head of Service to the bereaved family.

The visit, according to the statement, underscored the government’s concern for the welfare of members of the state civil service and their families, particularly during periods of grief and bereavement.

The rescheduled ceremony will honour the immediate past Head of Service as well as retired Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments on Monday, October 5, 2026.
