The Delta State Government has announced that enforcement of a QR Code/Barcode Verification Scheme for commercial vehicles will commence on Monday, July 13, 2026, as part of efforts to enhance security and improve the state’s transport system.

In a public notice issued by the Directorate of Transport, the government said the initiative is aimed at strengthening vehicle identification, improving accountability and ensuring safer public transportation across the state.

The government disclosed that Wydil Innovate Limited has been appointed as the consultant to implement the verification scheme.

According to the Directorate, the project will cover the registration, onboarding, coding, data collection and verification of all commercial vehicles operating within Delta State.

Authorities said the initiative would enhance the identification of commercial vehicles and improve the safety of commuters and transport operators.

The government also warned that fake QR codes are already in circulation and advised passengers and drivers to verify the authenticity of QR codes by scanning them before using commercial transport services.

It urged members of the public to patronise only commercial vehicles displaying the government-approved QR Code/Barcode Verification, describing the measure as a key step toward protecting passengers and boosting public confidence in the transport sector.

Commercial vehicle operators have been directed to obtain the approved QR Code/Barcode Verification for their vehicles before the commencement of enforcement.

The Delta State Government said the scheme forms part of its broader commitment to strengthening security, promoting accountability in the transport sector and creating a safer and more efficient public transportation system for residents.
