FCT Police Detain Officers Over Alleged ₦40,000 Extortion in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has identified and detained officers allegedly involved in the extortion of ₦40,000 from a resident along the Wuye-Utako Road in Abuja.

The Command disclosed this in a statement following the circulation of a video on social media alleging that police officers collected the money from the complainant near Salem Church.

According to the FCT Police Command, the officers seen in the video have been identified and are currently in custody pending investigation.

The Command has also invited the complainant to appear at its headquarters in Abuja to make an official statement, which it said would assist the investigation and guide possible disciplinary action.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Sanusi, said the Command would not tolerate extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct or any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel.

Sanusi warned that any officer found culpable after investigation would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in line with existing laws and regulations.

The Police Command also urged residents of the FCT to report cases of police misconduct and provide information that could assist investigations.
