FIRST LADY TINUBU URGES COMMUNITIES TO WELCOME AND SUPPORT REFUGEES ON WORLD REFUGEE DAY

On World Refugee Day 2025, First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called on communities to build inclusive environments that welcome and support refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The theme of this year’s celebration, “Community as a Superpower,” highlights the crucial role communities play in contributing to the well-being of the most vulnerable among us.

According to Senator Tinubu, refugees have shown remarkable strength, but it is often the kindness of neighbours, the open arms of strangers, and the unity of communities that turn survival into hope and hope into healing. “Let us continue to build inclusive communities where refugees and Internally Displaced Persons are not just welcomed, but truly embraced and supported,” she stated.

The First Lady emphasized that once supported, refugees and IDPs should reciprocate by being law-abiding and contributing meaningfully to their host communities. “Together, as a community, we are stronger,” she added.

Senator Tinubu’s message underscores the importance of community support in helping refugees and IDPs rebuild their lives. By working together, communities can create a safe and welcoming environment that fosters healing, hope, and resilience.
“Happy World Refugee Day!” the First Lady wished, as she urged Nigerians to join hands in building a more inclusive and supportive society for all.
