Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the nationwide distribution of the Flow with Confidence Menstrual Hygiene packs in Gombe, describing the initiative as a vital intervention to empower school girls through improved menstrual hygiene. Special Assistant to the First Lady (Media) Busola Kukoyi issued a statement highlighting the significance of the event.

“You are the future of this nation and I believe in you,” Oluremi Tinubu said as she charged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community leaders to ensure the sanitary pads reach intended beneficiaries. “In today’s modern world, no girl should have to miss school because of her inability to afford sanitary products. It is unacceptable that our girls still continue to face significant challenges during their menstrual cycle, especially those in rural communities, who miss school days every month because they cannot afford sanitary pads,” Oluremi Tinubu stated.

The First Lady announced that 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads would be distributed to each state and the Federal Capital Territory through State First Ladies and Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Coordinators, targeting girls in rural communities. “All States and the Federal Capital Territory will receive 10,000 packs each… Today, I will be handing over 10,000 packs of disposable sanitary pads to the First Lady of Gombe State for distribution to 10,000 deserving girls in rural communities across the State. Each beneficiary will receive one-year supply of the pads,” she said.

Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, and Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, both pledged support for the initiative to expand supplies to more girls in rural areas. Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, commended Oluremi Tinubu for her interventions in health, agriculture, economic empowerment, and education.

Earlier, Oluremi Tinubu had opened the 1st Gombe State Health Summit, asserting that health is a path to economic prosperity and national development. “Health is no longer a social service but a path to economic prosperity, social development, personal emancipation and national development,” she said. The First Lady was conferred with the traditional title of Sarauniya Yakin Kumo, the Queen Warrior of Kumo, Akko Emirate, by the Emir of Akko, HRH Alhaji Umaru Muh’d Atiku.
