Hannah’s Story of Answered Prayer Takes Centre Stage as NUJ OSBC Chapel Opens 2026 Press Week with Thanksgiving

The biblical account of Hannah at Shiloh formed the heart of the message at the Thanksgiving Service that opened the 2026 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, OSBC Chapel, held at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Egbatedo, Osogbo, on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

The Guest Speaker, Supt. Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Security and Local Matters and Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, drew his message from 1 Samuel 1:1-28, focusing on Hannah’s experience at Shiloh in verses 3 to 7 and her return to give thanks in verses 24 to 28.

Omoyele recounted how Hannah was sorrowful while others celebrated at Shiloh, yet she prayed to God for a child and returned the following year to give thanks after receiving her blessing. He described celebration as a response of grace enjoyed in all things, noting that thanksgiving should naturally follow answered prayers, as demonstrated by Hannah.

The Amotekun Commander urged journalists to use their pen and their profession to better society, cautioning them against selfishness and other vices as they appreciate God. He charged the Chapel to be agents of positive change in the society.

In her welcome address, the Chairman of the NUJ OSBC Chapel, Comrade Olawumi Olaniyi, said the service was a special opportunity to return all glory and honour to God for His faithfulness, protection and guidance over the Chapel, the union and the entire OSBC family.

“We are grateful that God has given us the privilege to witness another Press Week in peace and unity,” Olaniyi said.

The Chairman expressed special appreciation to the Press Week Sponsor, Commander Isaac Adekunle Omoyele, for his generous support and commitment towards making this year’s programme possible, praying that God would continue to bless and honour him.

She also appreciated the Director-General of OSBC, all bosses and senior colleagues, the Osun State NUJ Chairman, and the representatives and members of other Chapels who came to identify with the OSBC Chapel on the occasion.

To the executive members and all members of the NUJ OSBC Chapel, Olaniyi said, “The success of this Press Week is a collective responsibility, and I appreciate everyone who has contributed in one way or another.”

She prayed that God would make all the activities of the Press Week successful, peaceful and impactful, and that the celebration would strengthen the bond of unity among members.

Dignitaries at the service included Dr. Adeyemi Aboderin, NUJ Osun Council Chairman, and Seun Omidiran, NUJ Osun Online Media Chapel Vice Chairman, alongside Nicolas Adekeye, Secretary of the Online Media Chapel, and former NAWOJ chairpersons.

Executives of the NUJ OSBC Chapel present were Comrade Olawumi Olaniyi, Chairman, Kamil Abdulrahim, Secretary, Sijuwade Adesina, Financial Secretary, Bukola Osunwo, Treasurer, and Oladapo Oyetunji, Assistant General Secretary, as well as other distinguished journalists from across Osun State.

The Thanksgiving Service, which set a spiritual tone for the week-long programme, emphasised gratitude to God, unity among journalists and the responsibility of the media to contribute positively to society.
