An Israeli airstrike has killed a senior commander of the Hamas military wing, according to Israeli military officials, who say the individual played a key role in planning the October 7 attacks on Israel.

The strike, carried out in the Gaza Strip, reportedly targeted a high-ranking figure within the armed wing of Hamas. Israeli authorities described him as one of the architects of the deadly cross-border assault launched during the October 7 attacks.

The Israeli military said the operation was based on intelligence tracking senior Hamas operatives believed to be involved in coordinating militant activities in the ongoing conflict. However, independent verification of the commander’s identity and full role has not yet been confirmed by third-party sources.

The strike took place in the territory of the Gaza Strip, where intense fighting has continued amid the broader war between Israel and Hamas.

Israeli officials said the operation forms part of continued efforts to dismantle Hamas’s military infrastructure and leadership network. They added that further operations would continue against individuals linked to previous attacks on Israeli civilians and military targets.

Hamas has not yet issued a detailed confirmation regarding the reported death.

The development is expected to further escalate tensions in an already volatile region, where airstrikes and ground operations have continued despite international calls for de-escalation and renewed ceasefire efforts.
