A joint operation involving Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army has reportedly foiled planned attacks and kidnapping operations allegedly linked to members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the Southeast.

According to security sources, the operation was carried out following intelligence reports indicating that suspected operatives were planning coordinated attacks on selected targets within the region. The operation reportedly led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of weapons, communication devices, and other materials believed to be connected to the alleged plot.

Officials said the intelligence-led operation was aimed at preventing attacks against security personnel, government facilities, and civilians. Security agencies described the development as a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to address insecurity in the Southeast.

Preliminary reports indicate that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as investigators seek to determine the full extent of the alleged network and identify other individuals who may be connected to the operation.

The DSS and military authorities have not released complete operational details, citing ongoing investigations and security concerns. However, officials emphasized that security agencies remain committed to disrupting criminal activities and preventing threats to public safety.

The latest operation comes amid continuing efforts by federal security agencies to tackle kidnapping, armed violence, and attacks on public infrastructure across parts of southeastern Nigeria. Authorities have repeatedly urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help prevent criminal activities.

Security analysts say intelligence-sharing and joint operations between agencies have become increasingly important in countering organized criminal networks and armed groups operating in various parts of the country.
