Mararaba-Nyanya 2.6km Flyover to Be Completed by December 2026 – Nasarawa Govt

The Nasarawa State Government has announced that the ongoing construction of the 2.6-kilometre Mararaba-Nyanya Flyover and adjoining road project is expected to be completed by December 2026.

The Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board, Engr. Wada Yahaya, disclosed this during an inspection tour of major infrastructure projects in the state by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Team.

The team, led by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, inspected projects being undertaken by both the federal and state governments.

Yahaya said the Mararaba-Nyanya project was designed to tackle persistent traffic congestion in the densely populated corridor and improve connectivity between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, the project consists of two flyover bridges connected by an elevated 2.6-kilometre road, alongside five pedestrian bridges to enable residents cross the busy corridor without having to travel to the roundabout.

“There were several attempts to solve this traffic problem in Mararaba, but at the end of the day, His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule came up with the final solution and that is to provide a continuous flyover of 2.6km long,” Yahaya said.

He said the project was expected to significantly reduce travel time between Abuja and Keffi once completed.

Yahaya put the cost of the construction work at almost ₦40 billion, with additional expenditure expected on compensation and road furniture.

He said compensation for affected persons was estimated at more than ₦1.1 billion, while road markings, signage, streetlights and other road furniture could cost more than another ₦1 billion.

The total cost of the project, he said, was expected to fall between ₦43 billion and ₦44 billion.

Yahaya said the project was being implemented without disrupting the commercial activities around the Mararaba corridor.

He added that the improved road infrastructure would help stimulate economic activity in Mararaba and other parts of Nasarawa State by easing movement of people and goods.

The media team also inspected several other infrastructure projects across Nasarawa State.

They included the completed Lafia Flyover, Underpass and Interchange, the ongoing construction of the Dalhatu Arab Specialist Hospital in Akwanga, and the Total Flyover Bridge and Underpass in Keffi.

The team also visited the completed Akwanga Interchange and Underpass, another major road infrastructure project aimed at improving mobility and addressing traffic-related challenges.

The Nasarawa State Urban Development Board said the projects formed part of the state’s broader investment in urban infrastructure and transportation.

Speaking at the conclusion of the inspection tour of Benue and Nasarawa states, Tunde Rahman, Director of Media and Publicity of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Team, said the projects demonstrated the impact of increased fiscal resources available to state governments.

Rahman said the team had seen major road, bridge, healthcare, education and water projects during the tour.

He attributed the increased capacity of the two states to undertake infrastructure projects partly to reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration.

According to Rahman, the reforms had initially created difficulties but subsequently provided states with greater fiscal space to execute development projects.

He described Nasarawa as having become a “huge construction yard” under Governor Abdullahi Sule and said similar infrastructure development was visible in Benue under Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Rahman also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to consider the Tinubu administration’s achievements when deciding how to vote in future elections.

He argued that President Tinubu deserved another term to continue implementing his policies and programmes.

The comments came as Nigeria’s political parties and their supporters continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
