The Nigeria Labour Congress has given the Federal Government a four-week deadline to resolve the ongoing disputes with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

In a statement released on Monday, the NLC voiced serious concerns about the continuous disruption of academic activities in Nigerian universities, stressing that the crisis endangers the future of education in the nation.

The Congress pointed out that the persistent conflicts between ASUU and the government have triggered repeated strikes, leading to major disruptions in the tertiary education system. The NLC called on the government to immediately address ASUU’s demands and facilitate the return of lecturers to their duties without delay.

It cautioned that if the issues remain unresolved after four weeks, it may initiate strong industrial actions in support of the academic staff. “The education sector cannot continue to suffer neglect while students remain at home indefinitely. We urge the Federal Government to act swiftly and responsibly to prevent another total shutdown,” the NLC stated.

With the ultimatum period underway, education and labor stakeholders are observing developments closely, awaiting government action to avoid further nationwide upheaval.
