Director General of the Civil Society Organisation, on the Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiatives, Kunle Yusuf, Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, in the State House on Thursday, April 30, 2026

Speaking on Thursday at the State House in Abuja during a meeting with a delegation from the Civil Society Organisation on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), the President said recent economic reforms were beginning to yield results.

According to him, Nigeria has attracted “unprecedented” billions of dollars in investments, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector, despite prevailing national challenges.

“We have moved past a critical phase and are now seeing encouraging signs. The economy is picking up, and Nigeria is becoming a high-value destination for investment,” Tinubu said.

The President highlighted progress in the oil and gas sector, referencing a key milestone by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) in completing the River Niger crossing of the OB3 Gas Pipeline. He noted that the project, executed using advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology, would significantly boost gas supply.

The OB3 pipeline, laid about two kilometres beneath the riverbed, is expected to transport up to two billion standard cubic feet of gas per day, enhancing energy security, power generation, and industrial expansion across the country.

Tinubu also acknowledged the role of civil society organisations in strengthening governance through constructive engagement.

“Thank you for encouraging intellectual depth and critical inquiry in governance. We have survived the edge of bankruptcy and are now seeing light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

The President further unveiled plans for the ambitious Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project, noting that the corridor hosts over 75 dams with the potential to support irrigation, energy generation, and technological development.

On security, Tinubu assured that efforts to stabilise the country were ongoing, while discussions around the establishment of state police were receiving due consideration.

“It is not something that can be resolved instantly, but we are making progress. We will overcome,” he added.

In his remarks, CSCHEI Director-General, Kunle Yusuff, described the organisation as a United Nations-accredited body coordinating community-based, non-governmental, and faith-based organisations to drive socio-economic development.

He commended the administration’s reforms, particularly in revenue generation, which he said had recorded over 300 per cent growth. Yusuff also praised ongoing efforts in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as initiatives such as infrastructure development, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), and social investment programmes.

While acknowledging these achievements, he called for broader inclusion in beneficiary programmes and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting government efforts in promoting development at the grassroots level.

Vice President Kashim Shettima was also present at the meeting.

The engagement underscores ongoing collaboration between the federal government and civil society stakeholders in advancing governance, economic recovery, and social development in Nigeria.
